its commitment to bringing customers leading-edge technologies.”
AMD HyperTransport™ 3.0 technology (HT3) increases interconnect rates from 2
gigatransfers per second (GT/s) up to a maximum 4.8 GT/s, allowing the entire
system to provide superior performance. Additionally, the HP xw9400 can be
configured with the ATI FirePro V7750 3-D workstation graphics accelerator.
“The Six-Core AMD Opteron processor delivers top-line performance with no
compromise in feature sets across the product line,” said John Fruehe, director,

available. All HP workstations are more than 90 percent recyclable by weight and
incorporate a tool-less chassis design for quick and easy upgrades by hand. The
HP xw9400 workstation includes an 80 PLUS power supply, which is substantially
more efficient than a standard power supply, reducing both overall energy usage
and the amount of waste heat released into the environment.
Companies use HP Workstations to design everything from running shoes to race
cars, animated characters to deep-sea submersibles, and to manage everything
from billions of dollars of tradable securities to mission-critical IT
environments.

HP Simplifies Virtualized Infrastructures with Industry-first Storage Capabilities
HP announced new shared storage solutions that
improve business reliability and reduce costs by simplifying server
virtualization deployments.
Customers deploying virtual environments often overlook the
storage requirements needed to match their redesigned infrastructure. This can
lead to lower levels of data availability and poor utilization of storage
assets. In addition, customers frequently do not have the storage space needed
to scale as business demands increase, which can impact application performance.
The new HP LeftHand P4000 SAN solutions offer a scale-out
architecture that provides data replication and automatically balances data
volumes across all storage resources. Furthermore, to ensure that application
requirements are met, administrators can cost-effectively deploy shared storage
within virtual server environments while using existing physical and virtual
technology infrastructures.
HP also announced the industry’s first highly available shared
storage solution within a virtualized blade server infrastructure.
The new HP StorageWorks SB40c with P4000 Virtual SAN
Appliance Software bundle delivers a scalable storage area network (SAN).
This SAN can be deployed within the HP BladeSystem infrastructure and expanded
across multiple blade enclosures to meet high growth storage needs.
"Customers need agile, integrated storage solutions to realize
the full potential of virtualization," said Stephan Schmitt, vice president of
marketing, torageWorks Division, HP. "These new solutions offer the high data
availability and utilization needs they require. Based on industry-standard
platforms, this approach also enables customers to scale their environments
without interruption as their businesses grow."

HP Introduces World’s First Web-connected Home Printer
HP today unveiled the world’s first web-connected home printer: The HP
Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web.
HP is bringing the power of the web directly to the printer and combining it
with HP’s TouchSmart technology to give people quick, easy, touchscreen access
to popular digital content.
Designed for the digital generation and connected households, the HP
Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web features an entirely new web-based
printing platform with HP applications (apps). Similar to other
Internet-connected devices, these apps, which are viewable on an extra-large,
intuitive-to-use TouchSmart panel, allow people to connect instantly with fun,
informative and personal content.
In addition to receiving apps preloaded on the printer, people can download
new ones as they become available at the HP Apps Studio to suit their interests
and needs. With the sweep of a finger, users will be able to browse and view
popular web destinations and simply touch the app of their choice to launch a
web page where they can customize and print content on demand in an easy-to-read
format.
As pioneers of this new content-on-demand delivery platform, the world’s
first HP app partners will be USA TODAY, Google, Fandango, Coupons.com,
DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, Web Sudoku and Weathernews Inc. Through these
apps, people will have free access to customized daily news, maps, coupons,
coloring pages, movie tickets, recipes, personal calendars and more – all at the
touch of a finger.
The new printers also will connect directly to a user’s
Snapfish account to view, print and
upload photos. People additionally can access projects from the HP Creative
Studio.
People will be able to create and share their own apps to customize their
printers through the HP Apps Studio starting in late 2009.
“Twenty-five years ago HP invented consumer printing and today we are taking
advantage of the digital content explosion to reinvent the category with an
entirely new printing platform – powered by touch and empowered by the web,”
said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group, HP.
“By giving people access to the content they want at the touch of a finger, the
ability to customize their printing experience and create their own apps, and
enabling easy ’one touch’ wireless setup, we are driving a significant shift in
how people will be printing in the future.”

HP Showcases World’s First High-speed, 30-inch Digital Color Press
HP announced developments for its HP Inkjet Web Press platform to help print
service providers (PSPs) become more profitable and accelerate their transition
from analog to digital printing.
On show at an open house event at Los Angeles-based O’Neil Data Systems –
site of the first HP Inkjet Web Press beta installation – the press demonstrates
how customers can benefit from market-leading total cost of ownership, excellent
productivity and a high level of quality.
Bolstering HP’s efforts to target the $3 billion digital print market
opportunity for publishing in 2010, as well as the $13 billion market
opportunity for direct mail, transactional and transpromotional printing in
2010,(1) the HP Inkjet Web Press offers:
- Addressable printing resolution of 1,200 x 600 dots per inch (dpi) at a
full press speed of 400 feet per minute – an industry first for high-volume
continuous-feed inkjet production platforms – using the latest generation of
HP Thermal Inkjet printheads based on HP Scalable Printing Technology.
- Compatibility with a wide range of media types and weights, including
uncoated offset stock, newsprint, and treated and coated papers.
HP also announced the addition of Courier Corporation, a leading North
American book manufacturer, and Consolidated Graphics, one of the largest North
American general commercial printing companies, to the HP Inkjet Web Press pilot
program.
“To date, much of the industry talk on digital color inkjet presses has been
about future potential, not solutions that can make print service providers more
competitive, profitable and productive today,” said Aurelio Maruggi, vice
president and general manager, Inkjet High-speed Production Solutions, HP. “HP
is showing the industry firsthand how the groundbreaking, 30-inch-wide HP Inkjet
Web Press is bringing big benefits in an actual commercial production
environment.”

HP Introduces Industry’s First Business-ready Infrastructure for Automated Service Delivery in Data Centers
HP unveiled new solutions within its Adaptive Infrastructure (AI)
portfolio that fundamentally change the way technology is used to deliver
business services, while also reducing overall infrastructure costs and data
center complexity.
HP BladeSystem Matrix (Matrix) is the industry’s first converged software,
server, storage and networking platform that automates service delivery for the
data center. HP Matrix Orchestration Environment provides a unified management
interface to rapidly design, deploy and optimize the application infrastructure.
Together, these offerings create an integrated pool of resources that operate
in both physical and virtual environments, creating the first truly
business-ready infrastructure.
This powerful combination dramatically simplifies complex infrastructure
tasks such as disaster recovery, capacity planning, consolidation and
provisioning. As a result, companies can save nearly 80 percent in operational
costs and realize payback in as little as eight months, with a potential return
on investment in three years of over 300 percent.
Through a self-service portal, Matrix provides chief information officers
with a push button approach to accelerating the provisioning of the
infrastructure for applications. It also dynamically assigns resources to meet
the needs of the business in minutes versus weeks or months. Resources are
assigned to requests as needed, and then returned to the pool once the service
requirements are completed, optimizing utilization of the infrastructure.
HP has introduced several additional offerings that expand the flexibility of
a business-ready infrastructure including: HP LeftHand P4000 SAN solutions, HP
StorageWorks SB40c with P4000 Virtual SAN Appliance Software bundle, HP
StorageWorks 600 Modular Disk System and HP Insight Capacity Advisor
Virtualization Services.
“Increasingly, customers are looking for data center solutions with Adaptive
Infrastructure properties such as superior economics, application-based cost
tracking, and true dynamic capacity management,” said Mark Potter, senior vice
president, Infrastructure Software and Blades, HP. “Matrix is a game-changing,
all-in-one technology that allows the infrastructure to run at the pace of the
business.”

Blending Business Chic with Affordability, HP Unveils HP ProBook
HP today announced a new brand of affordable notebook PCs that merge business
functionality with sophisticated design to stand out from the crowd.
The HP ProBook series joins the award-winning HP EliteBook series to form one
of the most versatile business notebook portfolios in the industry. Inspired by
minimalism, the design of the new HP ProBook series combines matte and glossy
surfaces while stripping out the extraneous, leaving only a stylish and clean
look.
Distinguished by a choice of merlot or glossy noir finishes, a unique
keyboard design and a set of professional innovations previously found only on
higher-priced models, the HP ProBook series delivers HP’s best combination of
business features, functionality and value.
“The stunning HP ProBook s-series delivers exceptional style and aggressive
pricing that will captivate small and medium business users,” said Ted Clark,
senior vice president and general manager, Notebook Global Business Unit,

provide a great user experience.”
The standard series (s-series) of the new HP ProBook models incorporate a
mercury-free design, and features high-definition (HD) LED backlit displays in a
choice of 14-inch, 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch diagonal widescreen sizes.
The keyboard’s innovative layout provides a visually open and spacious

feature addresses the hassle of forgotten passwords by using a sequence of three
predetermined personal identification questions to gain immediate entry into the
system. For added data security, File Sanitizer for HP Protect Tools permanently
deletes individual files, folders and personally identifiable information from
the notebook, which also allows customers to recycle the notebook with
confidence that their business data has been removed.
Designed for recyclability, the ProBook s-series has been engineered for
reduced impact on the environment by eliminating or reducing substances of
concern, using fewer resources and reducing energy consumption.

HP Maximizes Benefits of Virtualization with New Mobile Thin Client and Enhanced Desktop Portfolio
HP today introduced an affordable new mobile thin client, as well as hardware
and software portfolio enhancements to its thin client portfolio, to help
companies improve security and productivity while reducing resource consumption.
The company also announced HP desktop thin clients that meet the new version
5.0 ENERGY STAR® specifications – an industry first. Select HP thin clients
include the HP t5145, HP t5540, HP t5545, HP t5630 and HP t5630w models and
offer customers a range of performance options and choice of Windows® CE,
Windows Embedded Standard and Linux operating systems.
The newly designed HP 4410t Mobile Thin Client provides enhanced security
access to server-based computing and reduces IT workloads while still providing
the mobility of a reliable notebook.
“We’re offering businesses a highly secure, manageable and easy-to-deploy
virtualization solution that combines HP’s industry-leading thin client and
notebook technologies,” said Carol Hess-Nickels, director, Worldwide Business
Notebook Marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP. “The new HP 4410t Mobile Thin
Client leverages HP engineering and design expertise to deliver true notebook
performance that customers can deploy in the office or in the field.”
Enhanced security and manageability with HP 4410t Mobile Thin
Client
Since data is never stored locally, the HP 4410t Mobile Thin Client
eliminates the risk of sensitive information getting into the wrong hands if the
device is lost or stolen. This added security is critical for a variety of
highly regulated industries, including distribution, education, finance,
government, healthcare, insurance and manufacturing.
Additionally, Microsoft’s latest embedded operating system, Windows Embedded
Standard with Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1, enables devices to take advantage of
the latest security and enterprise management technologies from Windows Server
2008.
HP is the only vendor offering a choice of File Based Write Filter (FBWF) or
Enhanced Write Filter (EWF), both of which are preloaded on the HP 4410t Mobile
Thin Client. These features provide IT managers more options for enhanced
security and increased productivity. FBWF adds flexibility by providing the same
data protection benefits of EWF, while allowing administrators to save specific
files, folders and configuration settings.
The new HP Privacy Filter accessory offers business professionals added
security by narrowing the viewing angle of the display screen, so onlookers see
only a dark, blank screen. Additionally, the HP 4410t Mobile Thin Client
includes Wi-Fi certified WLAN that provides enterprise-grade security.
Unlike other mobile thin client vendors, HP includes a wide variety of free,
preloaded remote management tools that ease the headaches associated with
supporting a mobile workforce. HP Device Manager and HP Client Automation join
HP ThinState tools and a full license of Altiris Deployment Solution on the
latest mobile thin client. These tools enable IT managers to easily deploy,
configure and manage software, reducing technical support costs.
Rich multimedia experience and reduced resource consumption
The HP 4410t Mobile Thin Client delivers an optimized user experience while
increasing productivity with the HP Virtual Client Essentials software
portfolio. This full line of multimedia and brokering solutions includes HP
Remote Desktop Protocol Enhancements, HP Remote Graphics Software display
protocols and HP Session Allocation Manager network broker.
Noodles & Company adopted HP mobile thin clients to help with the rapid
growth of its 200 restaurant locations.
“At Noodles & Company we rely on HP mobile thin clients to help us increase
productivity and security throughout the company,” said Jeff Malm, enterprise
manager, Noodles & Company. “These reliable and secure mobile devices allow our
area managers to spend more quality time face to face with our growing team of
restaurant managers. The area managers also enjoy the enhanced user experience,
while IT benefits from the cost-efficiency savings.”
HP is the only mobile thin client vendor that offers an optional DVD-ROM,
allowing users to watch a training video or other DVD of their choice, similar
to a notebook. Additional highlights include:
- Starting weight of 4.3 pounds (1.9 kilograms) with a 14-inch diagonal
widescreen, mercury-free, LED display li>
- Full-sized spill-resistant keyboard and integrated touch pad
- HHP Fast Charge – battery recharge up to 90 percent in 90 minutes

travel weight
Designed for recyclability, the HP 4410t is more than 90 percent recyclable
(by weight) or recoverable (capable of not going to a landfill).
Enhanced desktop thin client features
HP announced several new features and software enhancements for its desktop
HP t5545 Linux-based and t5540 Windows CE-based thin clients. The enhancements
offer easier integration with VMware View and Citrix XenDesktop environments,
stronger security, simplified setup and richer multimedia experiences.
The HP t5545 Thin Client, based on the HP ThinPro operating system, now
offers a wider range of operational modes, useful for automating global images
or profile deployment. Local mode is practical for creating and maintaining a
master profile for large deployments, or for individual usage scenarios with
unique access requirements. Persistent mode provides users with automated image
or profile updates while retaining settings locally for faster, more reliable
back-end access. Stateless Security mode protects sensitive back-end access data
by storing all desktop settings remotely. Settings are automatically retrieved
upon boot and removed when the local device is powered down.
Additionally, HP RDP Enhancements display protocol software is now available
for all HP ThinPro-based thin clients, providing users with a single-logon,
full-screen virtual desktop experience. Users simply log in to their virtual
client session to enjoy real-time, network-based multimedia content with full
stereo audio – such as interactive training, demos and live webcasts – across a
variety of multimedia formats.
The HP t5540 Thin Client is now easier to configure as a VMware View client
or Citrix XenDesktop appliance with HP Easy Update and HP Easy Config utilities.
The two new software startup tools make it quick and easy for customers to
identify and choose the latest image and configuration settings for their thin
client, helping get new users up, running and productive faster than ever
before.
These additions to the HP thin client lineup enhance HP’s broad
virtualization portfolio and ongoing investment strategy in remote client
virtualization solutions. HP’s client virtualization portfolio includes thin
clients, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and blade client hardware, as well
as virtualization software technologies such as HP Remote Graphics Software.

25 Years of HP LaserJet Underlines Commitment to Printing Excellence
HP looks back on the personal printing revolution
which became the industry’s “gold standard”
BOEBLIGEN, March 2, 2009 – HP today announced a major milestone in
its printing and digital imaging portfolio with the 25th anniversary of
its first LaserJet printer. During this period over 132 million LaserJet
printers have been sold across the globe, while HP’s commitment to
leadership and excellence has driven a series of World firsts including:
the smallest LaserJet printer, the network laser printer, the
multi-function device, and the color laser printer.
Recent LaserJet products have focused on minimizing the
environmental impact of the print process with Instant-on Technology
consuming up to 50% less energy and 50% faster performance over
traditional laser technology. Since its introduction, the use of
Instant-on Technology has reduced emissions by 5.25 million tons of CO2 to date–the equivalent of
removing over 1.1 million cars from the road for a year.
Tatiana Fish, SMB Marketing Manager, LaserJet and Enterprise
Solutions, HP Imaging & Printing Group EMEA, explains:
“Back in 1984, traditional office printing was formerly based
around the notoriously noisy daisy wheel and dot matrix system
characterized by variable quality, inconsistent image resolution and a
limited number of fonts. HP’s LaserJet not only transformed the office
environment, it brought the whole concept of ‘in house’ professional
quality printing within the reach of all businesses through industry
milestones such as the first sub $1,000 laser printer in back in 1990
and the first color laser printer under $500 introduced in 2004.”
Mrs Fish goes on to describe the HP LaserJet a genuine ‘gold
standard’ of office printing continually recognized through awards such
as the prestigious and independent Buyers Lab International which
recently recognized the HP Color LaserJet CP3525n as Outstanding
Mid-Size Workgroup Color Printer.
“HP LaserJets printers have become an integral part of companies’
IT infrastructure, as vital as the PC or telephone; today’s products
include additional features such as security, access control, wireless
access, document and device management,” says Mrs Fish.
One such software feature, HP Web Jetadmin 10 has itself recently
been acknowledged by Buyers Lab International. This service - available
on all enterprise-class LaserJet printers – helps the IT
department to remotely monitor and manage HP and third-party output
devices on the network, report on device usage and activity levels,
control end-user access and, even, order supplies.
“These are the additional features that have helped establish the
HP LaserJet’s reputation for reliability, superior output quality, ease
of use, and top performance” she adds.
A look under the LaserJet bonnet
The success and longevity of the HP LaserJet printer comes down to
continual research and development; focusing on all aspects of the
printing system from the toner, to the print cartridge, hardware and
print media, which are all developed in parallel for optimum printing
performance. This is where hundreds of patented technologies are found.
“One central innovation of LaserJet imaging system is the print
cartridge, the easily replaceable unit that has given the printer its
mass-market appeal. However, this unsung hero has often been seen as
little more than a toner refill. In reality, replacing the cartridge is
not merely the equivalent of a blood transfusion; it is the installation
of an entirely new heart,” explains Mrs Fish.
“The HP LaserJet print cartridge is a key component of the
electrostatic imaging system that turns each LaserJet printer into a
highly precise imaging and printing solution. This cartridge technology
has been absolutely fundamental to ensuring image quality across our
LaserJet portfolio for the past 25 years.”
Other technology and industry milestones achieved by HP during the
last 25 years include:
· May 1984 – The HP LaserJet Classic, the World’s first
personal LaserJet printer
· November 1985 – The HP LaserJet 500 Plus, the World’s
first dual paper tray printer
· November 1998 – The HP LaserJet IID, the World’s first
mass market laser printer with duplexing (double-sided capabilities)
· September 1990 – The HP LaserJet IIP, the World’s first
sub $1,000 laser printer
· March 1991 – The HP LaserJet IIISi, the World’s first
networked printer
· April 1991 – HP shipped its 10 million laser printer
· April 1993 – HP Web Jetadmin, the World’s first
graphical printer user software
· September 1994, – The HP Color LaserJet, the World’s
first color laser printer
· April 1998 – The HP LaserJet 3100, the World’s first
mass market, all-in-one device
· July 1998 – HP ships its 30 millionth laser printer
· October 1998 – The HP LaserJet 8100, the World’s fastest
laser printer
· May 2004 – The HP Color LaserJet 2550, the World’s first
color laser printer under $500
· November 2005 – The HP Universal Driver, the World’s
first multiple print device driver
